Continuing the Tradition of Independence

The present owners of The Lachlander, Peter and Neal Vane-Tempest, have kept the tradition of the last 110 years alive, by keeping the ownership in local hands.

Peter Vane-Tempest said that they purchased The Lachlander from the estate of Doretta Ryder-Wood.

"Like many of the locals we didn't know what was out the back of the old paper. When we saw it, we decided to try and keep it going and when the time came to turn it into a museum. Our family has been here for generations and we have all grown up with the old newspaper.

"Graham Scott was the executor of Mrs Ryder-Woods estate and was running the paper on her behalf. He agreed to keep it going for us so we handed control back to him and his staff. We own the business but don't have any input into it. It is independently run by the staff there, and that's how it should be." Mr Vane-Tempest said.
